Our ovaries age faster than we do

Welcome to our updated newsletter! Our intention for 2025 is making the content we send out more intentional and informative. Your time and attention are some of your most valuable assets and we want to honor that.

Alright - let's get to the content!

Western medicine has allowed us to age well beyond when our ovaries stop working (around age 51 yrs). By your menopausal years, your ovaries stop producing hormones at optimal levels. While we may be living longer unfortunately for some women these years can be riddled with chronic disease.

During our pre-menopausal years, we have an ebb and flow with our sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone). It supports our brain, bodies, and energy.

However, the menopause transition can feel like stepping into the unknown. You have lost control of your body and you have no one to help you.

'Where is the vibrant version of myself? Why don't my clothes fit me like they use to?'

Yes, menopause is uncomfortable but it's about connecting to your body in a whole new way. Symptoms of menopause are signals your body needs support.

So let's start by understanding the transition and how you can support yourself.

In your mid to late 30s: progesterone and DHEA start to decline. Poor sleep and anxiety can start to happen.

In your late 30s to mid 40s: You can experience estrogen and progesterone imbalances. And testosterone starts to decline. Think of your ovaries functioning like a spotty wi-fi signal. Some months you feel fine and others you don't know what the hell happened to your body.

This is a good time to get your labs checked and start monitoring trends. Think full thyroid, full monty iron, inflammation, blood sugar and lipid panels.

Consider adding in progesterone orally and/or through the skin.

In your mid to late 40s: progesterone continues its downward decent and estrogen is fluctuating wildly. This is what makes the transition chaotic and at times unbearable.

Continue to track lab trends, provide mineral support and lean into your foundational health.

Use targeted natural remedies and if you haven't already consider supplementing with progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone. This will prevent symptoms from becoming severe and prevent age-related diseases that occur as a result of hormone insufficiency.

In your early 50s: For most women, they have reached menopause and are experiencing the systemic effects of hormone deficiency if they are not replacing them with HRT.

So where do you start?

Go by symptoms regardless of age.

Then you can go from there with treatment.

The solution to true healing:

✅ Lean into basics: sleep, stress, minerals, and physical activity
✅ Curated lab panels that go beyond basic testing that your MD won't do
✅ Know your options and work with a qualified practitioner to discuss HRT

✅ Avoid marketing tactics and fancy supplement protocols that leave you wanting and exhausted

Our goal for you in 2025 is to stop constantly 'starting over'.

Back to Basics: Progesterone At some point in your early forties or even late thirties, you will start to make less progesterone due to infrequent ovulation. To make progesterone, you must ovulate. Think of ovulation as the MVP of your menstrual cycle. If you have symptoms but are still having periods than you are in perimenopause. Perimenopause can start 5-10 years before menopause, and it is these tumultuous years when women need extra support. The loss in progesterone can bring a whole...
